Q: What’s your design philosophy?
I believe that everyone deserves to live beautifully, no matter their circumstances. The need to live in clean, orderly, and serene surroundings is important for everyone to feel welcome, comfortable and valued. After all, living and entertaining in uncluttered, beautiful and interesting surroundings is what it’s all about.
Q: What’s the best piece of design advice you have received?
I find the following to be so true: “better design leads to better use and a better state of mind.” And the best advice I can give is to remember that remodeling is not for the faint of heart. When remodeling fatigue sets in (no one is immune!), take a deep breath, and remind yourself of the benefits to be realized when all is done.
Q: What's a recent project that you're really proud of? Why?
There have been several in which a client was dreading the upheaval of a remodel and, in the end, uttered the most gratifying words to any designer, “I love, love, love it!” To have successfully brought their vision to life is really fulfilling and I am continually amazed to see spaces kept as lovely as the day they were completed because the client now has a clear vested interest in doing so.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere – in everything I read and see. Be it a newspaper, magazine, web page, or television, a chord can be struck on any project that happens to be percolating in my mind. Travel near and far also inspire - from hotels, restaurants, museums – my latest inspiration was Buenos Aires street art. An art history class teacher used to emphasize how important it is to look at your surroundings and, especially, to look up. Next time you are out and about, remember to look up – you will be rewarded by the detail on so many doors, windows, facades, roofs. Amazing.
Q: What’s the main reason you specify Danze and what’s your favorite Danze product?
Danze offers stylish products at an affordable price point without sacrificing quality. Although I have specified from many Danze collections, I like the Prince line for a traditional bathroom. It has nice lines that are neither too feminine nor masculine and have a nice ergonomic feel.
