Q: What’s your design philosophy?

My design philosophy revolves around discovery. By discovering and appreciating the individuality of each client and their space, I can transform their environment into something as unique as they are, that functions “just right” for them. I am always looking to discover innovative storage and layout solutions for clients’ challenges and needs. And finally… the fun part- discovering what aesthetically pleasing materials will make their hearts sing!

Q: What’s the best piece of design advice you have received?

“Form Follows Function.” It sounds cliché, but in kitchens and baths it is so important. While obtaining a degree in Architecture, it was advice I heard over and over again (thanks to Louis Sullivan and his predecessors). It’s now engrained in me! (Of course there are exceptions to every rule, right?)

Q: What's a recent project that you're really proud of? Why?

I take my work very personally, and therefore take pride in all of it. But a recent favorite involved a family of 6 (and an interested sister to make 7). The parents of 4 are both engineers, so they are into the details, which I love. Their sister is very talented with color, accessorizing and design in general so it was fun to have her input as well. The result was a gorgeous kitchen with a red island, walnut accent cabinets and off-white perimeter cabinetry. Two types of granite and a custom hood rounded off the project.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration?

My inspiration always starts from the client. I love getting to know them, their collections, their lifestyles, etc. They inspire me to fulfill their particular needs. Beyond that, I get inspired by the beautiful color palettes of natural stone slabs, work of those who have come before me and all of the new trends that I strive to keep up with.

Q: Do you specify Danze? If yes, why and what’s your favorite collection?

I do specify Danze when it’s appropriate for budget and style. I love the Parma collection – both kitchen and bath products!
